I'm a "retired" registered nurse, mom, and military wife. What was once just a hobby has become my new career. I once dreamed of being a wedding planner so it is just SO CRAZY to me that I actually became a wedding photographer. I love the chaos, the puffy dresses, the tuxes, the ballrooms, the barns, the families, the music...I could go on and on. I even embrace those stressful moments! I can’t ever get enough!
Honestly, I became a wedding photographer by accident. It's true! In 2015, I was encouraged to shoot my very first wedding having never shot anything professionally before and definitely having never shot a wedding (not even as a second shooter). I turned the gig down twice before I finally agreed. So, I got my business license just one week before that first wedding and the rest is history! I’ve now booked over 50 weddings in less than 4 years now and have dedicated all my time and efforts to couples in love!
Yes, I love being a wedding photographer, but first and foremost, I love the people I photograph even more. There is nothing better than getting to know my couples and then spending my weekends documenting their real life fairytales. Many of my clients have even left reviews saying I wasn't just their photographer but their friend. I just can't get over that. I continue to make it my #1 priority to be more and do more and create an experience you will never forget.
I’m the spunky girl who is obsessed with everything weddings! It didn’t take me long when I first started my business to see where my heart was leading me - weddings, couples, and love stories. Whether I’m behind my camera freezing those once-in-a-lifetime moments or behind my computer blogging the experience so you can relive your day, I’m invested. Go ahead. See for yourself. Check out the blog. Read the reviews. This job is so much more to me than just taking pretty pictures. It's about the whole experience. It’s about YOU, your significant other, and the whole adventure that led you to your big day!
Stressed about the day's agenda?! No problem! I’m happy to take the stress off you and make it my #1 priority to get you those beautiful memories no matter what. Running behind schedule is NOT an option for me and I’m very serious about my timelines - exhibit A left. My clients laugh because I have “nervous hands” which are basically my t-rex hands when time gets tight. Weddings are unpredictable. I have you covered - promise!
I don't know why because it's never happened, but those rings stress me out. I don’t take the rings outside...never over a heating vent...nope. No way! I blog about it often and clients know this about me! I even call witnesses when I return the rings saying, “Everyone look. I’m handing the rings over. They are no longer my responsibility.” It always gets laughs...but I’m dead serious!
I “joke” with my clients (but it's really true) that I have three voices. There's my “Hannah Voice” which is my normal, loud, spunky, and energetic voice. I have my “Professional Hannah Voice” which is the same but with more stern and to-the-point intonations (I may be getting a wee bit stressed and need people to be more organized). Then, I have my “Professional Bossy Hannah Voice”. Let your imagination run wild with that one! :-) Past clients will tell ya!
My life is a giant typo...figuratively and literally. I'm always in fast forward. When I blog, I’m known for my unfortunate typos and I do TRY SO HARD. I ultimately just get too excited. It drives my mother (who is a teacher) positively insane. My husband says I write like a cavewoman and one of my best friends is my “proofreader”. Nonetheless, it’s the one thing I’m know for not doing well and people get a kick out of it. I don’t mind either because people LOVE my blogs! See for yourself!
I tend to hoot, holler, and squeal when I take photos. I basically cheer my couples on! Sometimes I worry it's too much but people keep telling me the energy lessens their fears and stress. I once saw myself in a video. Initially, I was embarrassed because I was so loud and excited...but clients assure me it’s “ok” and they would rather it be that way than have no idea if they are doing a good job. Makes sense to me!
Fun Fact: She is a Hannah Barlow Photography bride too! We were strangers when she hired me back in 2016! Our friendship quickly blossomed and her passion for both photography and weddings caught my attention! Being a HBP bride herself, she knows the whole experience from start to finish plus what it's like to be on both sides of my camera!
Meet Kari! She is one of the very best things that happened to Hannah Barlow Photography! She's my ideal wedding day assistant and second shooter!! Her hard work and mutual love of weddings has made my job easier and my clients' experiences better! Her attention to detail never goes unnoticed and that's why she often directs while I shoot! She's also the train carrier, veil thrower, bag toter, refreshment runner... and she's even had to dash for the forgotten wedding ring a time or two! Unlike most photographers in the area, we are a team and it does make all the difference!
