Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Let’s say “Hi” to Kari and David! Kari hired me to photograph her wedding next October (2017). We hadn’t met in person prior to this day, but we did a lot of brainstorming when it came to their engagement shoot (and we actually decided on another location this Fall, so this isn’t even technically their engagement shoot! HA!). Kari is marrying David who has a sister named Danielle. Danielle is married to a guy named Greg and Greg just so happens to work with my husband (and he’s a great friend). With that being said, I decided to have a BBQ and bring everyone over so I could finally meet these two in person! Kari and I had talked about how much she and David liked to have their picture taken. Well…you know me! I’m not one to pass up an opportunity, so one thing led to another and we decided to time travel this Memorial Day weekend- to the 1950’s! They were more than willing, so I said “Yes, please!”.
This is my late grandfather’s 1951 Ford. My Uncle now owns and cares for this amazing vehicle. I also found out that David really enjoys old cars and trucks. WIN! 🙂 I hope you all enjoy!
For these photos, it was an interesting time editing. Usually, I go for crisp, clean focus and bright colors with minimal imperfections. After doing the initial edits, I essentially had to figure out how to destroy the color and clarity that comes with 21st century DSLR cameras and add some imperfections, but that’s ok because you can’t have “old” photos without them looking old, right?!
For any of you who are curious, here’s the original edits pre-destruction! I really do love the red and color pop! It was a toss up between people loving the authentic quality of the photos above and the nice color of the photos below when I shared a sneak peek of this shoot on Facebook. You decide and feel free to post your vote on my Facebook page!
So fun, right?! Keep checking back! You’re going to be seeing these two willing models (and now friends) in many shoots to come, I hope! I’m thinking we need to hit each decade now, so if you know anyone who has an old car and is willing to let me photograph in front of it, get a hold of me please!
