Harley-Davidson Engagement Shoot| Hannah Barlow Photography

Happy Friday, everyone!  Want to see something a little different on the Hannah Barlow Photography engagement blog today?! Well, you’re going to, for sure!! I want you to meet Joanna and Geoff!  I’ve been anticipating their engagement session for some time now.  Last fall, Joanna reached out to me for a pre-booking wedding consult.  Geoff tagged along with her and we had a nice chat at Tim Horton’s over some coffee.  I remember feeling very fulfilled at that meeting especially when she told me she was so happy to see only wedding photography, engagement photography, and couple photography on my website! AHHHH!! That’s music to my ears!  Back when I was a new photographer, I really struggled to take all that other stuff off my site.  It was hard and scary even though I knew my heart and soul was with wedding photography and now I’m seeing it pay off with clients like these two.  I think it goes without saying they decided to book…and then we started talking engagement sessions.  Joanna even attended one of my Aisle Be Ready Wedding Workshops!  I definitely felt like I knew her come time for this engagement session…although I wasn’t exactly sure what she was envisioning for their photos, I knew we were going to do something great!

So, everyone…meet Joanna and Geoff and enjoy their more edgy and different Hannah Barlow Photography engagement session – complete with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle!

Engagement

Geoff showed up with this Harley, of course.  That’s actually how these two met.  Joanna was bartending the day Geoff and his buddies rode in on their bikes to grab a bite to eat and a drink.  Geoff asked, “Can I have an iced tea and your phone number?!”  I’m giggling because I can TOTALLY see that being his opening line!! It definitely fits his personality!  Now, I’ve photographed some bikes and other beloved modes of transportation in the past so know how men can be with their toys.  I figured he might be a little nervous with me around the bike (I’m high strung…I know it).  Wouldn’t you know it, he wasn’t even a little bit shaken up and told me not to worry because he’s got two anyway!  HA!  I was so impressed and he definitely came with his A game.  Anything I asked him to do, he did it and with 100% dedication.  And I’m totally calling Joanna out because she said he hated having his photo taken.  I’ll be honest…I kind of thought he’d be that way too because he warned me about it at our consult.  Nope.  No way!  I was so comfortable and they were so comfortable (or just faking it real well).  I was a SQUEALING machine this session and I thank my lucky stars they didn’t think I was crazy…but just laughed along with me the whole time!

These two do edgy and biker so well!  She told me that once she got on the back of his bike when they first started dating, she knew she had to have him.  Actually, she said, “I knew I had to make him mine!”.  So, Joanna asked if it was weird doing something very different from what I’m used to and with the bike.  I assured her it was so nice for a change!  It’s good for me to branch out and do something different and retest all my technical knowledge!

Engagement

…and retest my technical skills they did!! Because, guess what!  It wasn’t actually dark when we did those! HA! Did I fool you?!  It was completely daylight outside still!  Per my usual attitude toward “insurance shots”, I took some that reflect my usual style too not because I was worried but just because I wanted this couple to have both what they’d envisioned and some traditional shots that can be expected to come out of my camera! Ta da!

So, we kept playing and we even grabbed some ring shots right on the bike!  I did light flare.  I did side light.  I did those flash photos above!  I tried to do it all because the elements were pretty perfect this day!  Squeallllllling I was!  They’ll tell you.  They laughed at me a lot!

Then, we headed off and I joked I was going to make them do ALL the walking and snuggling all my other couples have to do! Of course, they didn’t even hesitate and kept laughing hysterically at me!  We’ve all decided their May wedding next year is going to be a ton of fun!

Engagement

AND THEN…I found orange flowers.  I mean, their wedding is going to have a Harley-Davidson theme.   Their engagement session HAD a Harley-Davidson bike in it.  So, you can imagine my excitement and glee when I saw these orange flowers.  Yep.  Just when they thought they were going to get away from me (and the sun was actually setting at this point), I asked them for just a few more photos…because…I mean…ORANGE FLOWERS!

Well, that’s it.  That’s a wrap on Joanna and Geoff’s session! These two are getting married next year in St. Clairsville, Ohio at the Carnes Center!  I’ve been there before and I know they have a killer sunset potential! I also MAY have requested the bike make an appearance!! We will see!  Geoff’s probably going to regret being so “into” these photos.  He may have secretly hated it.  I don’t know…but he just won himself a TON of spectacular wedding photos!  Bring me all the biker edge!! BRING IT!  Joanna?  She said she’s shy.  I don’t believe!  Even if that’s true, boy OooO boy…we’re going to have a fabulous time making edgy bridal magic!  Check back next year!! It’s going to be amazing! AHHHHH!!

Thanks for reading!! Have a WONDERFUL weekend, everyone!
